William Eddy

William Eddy was born on 25 October 1858 in Creswick, Victoria. He was the son of John Clements Eddy and Mary Ann Nankervis.

William farmed in Dongolocking near Dumbleyung in Western Australia. There isn't much in Dongolocking now, just a plaque identifying the site of the old school. It is understood that he and his wife may have had a property of 40 acres and a second one of 100 acres.

A book documenting the local history of the area reportedly states that a well on the corner of White Well and Tincurrin/Harrismith Roads was constructed in the early 20th century by two of the first settlers in the area, one being a man named Eddy. The well is still there, although now unused.

William's eldest son, John Charles Eddy, served in World War I and is on the Honour Roll in Dumbleyung. It is understood that William George Eddy of the 2/33rd Brigade in World War II was another son.

William died on 11 December 1919, at age 61, and was buried at Nippering Cemetery, close to the town of Dumbleyung. His widow, Margaret Ann Eddy died on 1 July 1943, aged 80 years and is buried in the same cemetery.
