Frances Ryan
Frances was born in 1856 at Parramatta, New South Wales, where her father, Michael Ryan was gaol warder. He mother was Frances O'Shaughnessy.
In 1874 Frances gave birth to a daughter, Annie May Ryan at 12 Yurong Street, Woolloomooloo in Sydney. As she was unmarried, the baby was registered with her mother's surname although the identity of the father is included in the registration information. A this time, nothing further is known of Frances' life.
It appears that Frances was residing with her sister Mary and Mary's husband, Michael Tierney, at 64 Cumberland Street, Sydney. After an illness lasting 5 months, Frances died of "pulmonary phthisis" (tuberculosis) at the Cumberland Street residence on 2 June 1879. She was buried athe Catholic Cemetery in Sydney but her remains were later relocated to Rookwood Cemetery when the Sydney Burial Ground was closed (it is now the site of Sydney's Central Railway station and railway lines in the direction of Redfern).
Thanks to Valmay Archer of Queensland, who provided some of the above information. Valmay is a descendent of Frances Ryan.
