Clive Wentworth Uhr

Clive Wentworth Uhr was born on 1 January 1903. He was the son of Wentworth Charles Uhr and Margaret Imel Cleary.

He married Marie Josephine Barry on 24 August 1933. Their children are :

Clive Uhr graduated in medicine in 1926 at Sydney University and was resident medical officer (RMO) at at Brisbane General. He became senior Radiologist while in private practice and was a member of the Medical Board of Queensland.

He volunteered for service in the Australian Infantry Forces (AIF) in World War Two and was a prisoner of war in Changi, the notorious Japanese prisoner-of-war camp in Singapore.

He was honoured with the award of a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in 1961 and knighted (KCBE - Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in 1971.

Sir Clive Uhr died on 17 September 1974.

Thoroughbred horse racing in Brisbane has featured a top race known as the "Sir Clive Uhr Quality Handicap". The pacing (standardbred) horse race, run at Albion Park Paceway in Brisbane and now known as the Queensland Championship, was known as the "Sir Clive Uhr Championship" between 1975 and 1980 and won twice each by famous Australian pacers Paleface Adios and Koala King.
