Jane Bickham Guscott
Known as "Jenny" or "Jenney". Jane was the daughter of Samuel Guscott and Mary Bickham of Moretonhampstead, Devon, England. Jane married Edward Endacott in 1797 in the same town.
Edward and Jane were parents of six children including
- Maria Endacott
- Mary Endacott, born 1800. Further information provided separately.
- William, born 6 June 1802 at Mortonhampstead, Devon, England; christened in 1802; became a butcher and can be traced right through to the 1881 census as butcher, single and on the Dockham farm. According to the Death duty registers (Ref: IR26 1899Register3 No. 438) William was a butcher in Moretonhampstead at the time of his father's death in 1851.
- Susan Endacott, born 1804. Married James Endacott (no relation). In 1841 census, she and her husband are shown as residing at Teignbridge, Moretonhampstead with their children : Susan aged 8, thirza aged and John aged 1.
- Edward Endacott, christened on 15 May 1811 in St Sidwell, a suburb outside the city of Exeter. According to the Death duty registers (Ref: IR26 1899Register3 No. 438) Edward was a grocer in St Sidwell at the time of his father's death in 1851.
- John Endacott, christened in 1814
The first four children were christened in the church in Moretonhampstead where Edward was a successful blacksmith. The family then relocated to Exeter city, where the two youngest children were christened. But they did not stay there.
In the 1841 census, Edward, a farmer aged 65, and Jane, also aged 65, are residing at Hill Farm in the hundred of Teignbridge. Also in the home at census time were John Endacott aged 25, Daniel Endacott aged 15, William Endacott aged 15, Edward Endacott aged 13 and James Endacott aged 10. Also shown at the address was Agnes Earle, aged 14. TThe information about John aged 25 is sufficiently close to identify that this was Edward and Jenney's youngest son. The age of 10 years for James Endacott is consistent with this child being James Hooper Endacott, son of Mary and grandson of Edward and Jane.
Jane died 16 March 1842 at Moretonhampstead.
