Records held by the Valuation Office in Dublin show the following information regarding persons named Bergin residing in the area of Clonaslee near the Queen's County/King's County (Laois/Offaly) border.
Ballynahown
In the townland of Ballynahown, nearer to Cadamstown, adjoining Co Offaly(Kings County), there was a Patrick Bergin (map ref 7) leasing from Lady Harriet W Warneford, 12 acres 1 rood and 18 perches around 1861. Then in around 1866 Patrick Bergin is crossed out and Denis Duffy is the new tenant.
Coolagh
In the Coolagh townland, there was a Denis Bergin (map Ref 25) crossed out in red either in 1856, 57 or 58. The new name is Thomas Carroll. Later a John Bergin is in Coolagh (map ref 39). The lessor is The Guardians of Mountmellick Union. Map 22b has a Denis Bergin replaced by John Bergin lessor Edward Tarleton.
Castlecuff
On the townland of Castlecuffe can be found James Bergin, lessor John B Falkiner, 1866 to 1882. Then it shows Catherine (possibly the wife of James Bergin) and then James Conroy, while a Charles Multany got some of James' land at map ref 3A.
Ballynahimmy
In Ballynahimmy townland, on map 8B, Denis Bergin is shown as tenant in period 1866 to 1882, lessor John Flanagan, and the area was 1 rood 12 perches.
Ballykenneen Lower
At Ballykenneen Lower in 1861 is Daniel Bergin (previously Wm Downey followed by Judith Downey); this is on map 4B with lessor Joseph Davis. There is an observation on column Denis Bergin. In 1864 Daniel crossed out. In 1866 unoccupied till 1882. Later names shown are Bridget Byrne and Denis Barry until, in 1941, Patrick Barry.
Clonlyon
At Clonlyon John Bergin 1914 had map ref 4ABC, , 39 and 42. Daniel came after John, then Sarah, and then Laurence Rigney.
