Origins of the Bergins

Bergin is the Anglicized version of the Gaelic name Ó hAimheirgin. (see www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irlkik/ihm/) and places the origin of the name in County Offaly. Further information about the origin of the name is found at http://www.goireland.com/genealogy/family.htm?FamilyID=422.

This picture, taken in 2002, shows an abandoned house, once occupied by
a family named Bergin on the Hundred Acres townland in Co. Offaly in the
area of the Slieve Bloom Mountains. This was a relatively short
distance from the townlands of the Clonaslee area where lived members of the
family of Denis Bergin.
